The Doctor's (Robert Picardo) memory circuits are overloaded. Should they shut him down and reactivate him, losing all that he has learned in the last two years, or can he be repaired? Simultaneously, to save a 15-month detour, should Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) contravene Starfleet guidelines and cross alien space, risking a devastating attack by The Swarm?
Special Agent Matti
Lots of technobabble and a nascent love interest.
There's nothing much to say about this episode: it's interesting and entertaining enough to watch, but there's nothing in it that you need to know, unless they continue the problem with the Doctor's memory that cropped up after two years in another two years.
(Note from the future: they don't.)
The swarm are just a bit of Fire all weapons! to fill in the rest of the episode.
The swarm takes care of a spare 44 minutes, if that sort of thing interests you.
