This is not a very exciting episode, but it does examine the relationship between Chakotay and Janeway in detail for the first time.
Sorry, there is no nooky - this is Star trek after all - but it does get up close and personal. It's a character-driven story rather than a conflict-driven one, written for the more mature Trekkie. And coming, as it does, in the penultimate position for Season Two, it was always bound to be a little slow.
One thing this episode does do very well is lay the foundation for a possible relationship between Chakotay and Katherine, if only they'd get rid of that pesky boyfriend Mark...

Janeway's farewell speech
This is Kathryn Janeway. I never liked saying goodbye, so I'll make this brief, but I want you all to know that serving as your captain has been the most extraordinary experience of my life. No captain could ask more than what this crew has given - bravery, compassion, and strength of character. But what I'll miss most of all is the fun. The times we joked together, the games on the holodeck. I'll remember the laughter more than anything. although Commander Chakotay and I won't be with you for the rest of your journey, we know that you'll be the same steadfast crew for Mister Tuvok as you've been for us. We wish you a safe and speedy journey home. Our thoughts will be with you. Janeway out.
