Constable Tuvok on the beat.

Yes, this is one of those Star trek detective episodes complete with eyewitness testimonies and narrative flashbacks. The story is worth watching because we see the kind of reprobate that Tom is, despite his long years surrounded by Starfleet morality. Other than that, it's a bit weak. Obviously Tom isn't going to die, Vulcan logic will arrive at the truth, and everyone will behave in a sensible manner. But it's still good to see a good guy with flaws.

FYI: "Ex post facto" is Latin for "after the fact".
