Kirk (William Shatner) receives a distress signal from a UFP colony but instead of survivors he finds a disabled Klingon ship. Kang (Michael Ansara), the Klingon Commander, is convinced the Enterprise attacked his vessel, while Kirk blames the Klingons for destroying the colony. Aboard the Enterprise, Klingons take on Kirk's crew. Both sides are kept evenly matched and even fatal wounds heal instantly! Who or what is controlling them, and why?
