Episode propaganda

On Capella IV, a landing party discover that Kras (Tige Andrews), a Klingon agent, has been negotiating an alliance with the natives, and seem to be gaining their confidence. When Kirk (William Shatner) breaks a taboo by saving the life of Eleen (Julie Newmar), spouse of the Capellan leader Akaar (Ben Gage), he, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and McCoy (Deforest Kelley) become fugitives - from the natives and the Klingon agent! Meanwhile, the Enterprise crew have their hands full when a Klingon ship sets a trap, diverting them from the planet.

Cowboy diplomacy.

While the costumes and dialogue are lost in the 60s, the idea - interplanetary negotiating, scheming and dirty tricks - is cool. Even better is that the mighty Federation and the Klingon Empire are forced to work in the Capellans' culture because they have what everyone wants (topaline, very useful for running life support systems). It's a far cry from the European imperialism of go in, take what you want, infect the natives and leave.

This is also a good action/adventure episode, with hunting, traps, shooting and hitting with rocks. The bows & arrows are completely unconvincing, but you learn how to willingly suspend you disbelief when you watch a few of these old episodes.

Good fun.

FYI: The title comes from an old nursery rhyme:

Monday's child is fair of face;
Tuesday's child is full of grace;
Wednesday's child is full of woe;
Thursday's child has far to go;
Friday's child is loving and giving;
Saturday's child works hard for a living.
But the child that is born on the Sabbath day
is fair and wise, good and gay.
