The Enterprise is in dry-dock so that a special procedure can be run on the ship to eliminate build-up of certain elements caused by the warp engines. The process is deadly to life so the crew must be evacuated while the station staff do their work. Picard, briefly returning to the ship to get his saddle so he can ride horses on the planet, learns that thieves are attempting to steal the trilithium resin from the ship and he must stop them single-handedly.
