An expedition led by Worf to investigate an extinct race ends in tragedy when a deadly explosion kills Maria Astor (Susan Powell). Worf feels responsible for the death, and for her now orphaned son, Jeremy (Gabriel Damon). However, unknown to the rest of the crew, Jeremy's grief is tempered by the continuing appearance of his mother enticing him to go down to the planet.
