Threat advisory: High - High risk of entertaining activities
Movie propaganda
Once upon a time there were two bookstore owners. One was a passionate young woman who ran a small children's bookstore. The other was the owner of Manhattan's largest book super chain, a man whose enterprise could put every independent bookstore out of business. The man and the woman were natural enemies. But when they coincidentally - and anonymously - met in cyberspace, they accidentally fell in love.
You've got mail is a romantic comedy set in the age of email. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan star as Joe Fox (NY152) and Kathleen Kelly (Shopgirl), two booksellers who face off against each other in real life even as they unwittingly romance each other via modem.

Theatrical report
A romantic comedy for the late 90s, so there's email instead of roller blades.
The chemistry between Tom and Meg is as evident as ever, Tom as the capitalist with a heart and Meg as the slightly ditzy woman of today. Had any other two actors been cast in this film it probably wouldn't have worked as well as it did.
There is a brilliant conflict in Joe and Kathleen's relationships - the connectivity of their email is blocked by the antagonism of their daily lives. When Joe finds out who his e-pen pal is, it just makes the dichotomy stronger: he has to battle against his better self as a suitor for Kathleen's affections. And, if I may be so bold, it's not as good as Sleepless, but Sleepless was pretty darned good, after all.
You've got mail is a well made romantic comedy that anyone will enjoy. Watch with your girlfriends (this is a chick movie) and your tissues (this is a romantic movie) and your chocolate (for that post-emotive hormonal surge) and see this flick.
