Movie propaganda

Following the massive world-wide success of his fast food exposé Super size me, Morgan Spurlock is on another one-man crusade. This time, in true action hero style, he's decided to track down America's number one enemy. His motive? To create a peaceful world for his unborn child to grow up in. He may not have desert survival skills, knowledge of Arabic, or any clue what to do if threatened by terrorists, but that's not going to stop him.

After gruelling induction with the US marines, Morgan sets off to find out where Osama bin Laden comes from, root out his known contacts and relatives, and convince them to tell all. Easy, right?

Hot on bin Laden's tail, he journeys through the Middle East and beyond, to al-Qaeda territory in Pakistan and Afghanistan, Along the way, he finds out what people really think of the war on terror, while never missing an opportunity to ask the all-important question: “Do you know where I could find Osama bin Laden?"

Theatrical report

Wow, you can see that someone gave Morgan bin Spurlock a much bigger budget to make Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden? than they did for Super-size me. He has animations and everything (not to mention the international air travel).

As you'd expect, Morgan makes a humorous and witty foray into the world of foreign intelligence gathering, coming closer to finding Osama than the governmental groups have. A conspiracy buff might wonder at the CIA's difficulties on this subject as the Bush family is close ties with the bin Laden family and the president of the USA is a Bush and his father used to work at the CIA. Hmmm... coincidence?

Unfortunately, Mr Spurlock doesn't find Mr Bin Laden as he's put off by one of those "foreigners will be killed" signs that are always popping up at the side of the road but this film is about the journey, not the destination. If you're a reasonably intelligent person you'll be aware of most of the things that are revealed but you have to keep in mind that the primary audience for this movie is Americans and "reasonably intelligent" is not a phrase that is used in conjunction with Americans. (If only the British hadn't lost the bloody revolution we'd be in a hugely different world.)

Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden? is a fun way to educate people on the Middle East as well as on how to survive a grenade attack, and you never know when that will come in handy.

The documentary movie Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden? is directed by Morgan Spurlock and stars Morgan Spurlock.
