Theatrical report

Alright, lately I have been wishing I didn't have to do this any more. Lately it seems as though the same plots, same stories, and same dialogue is just too, "same" that nothing new is truly new. Fair enough, Hollywood sticks to the plots that work (ie boy meets girl, falls in love, breaks up, get back together blah blah blah...)

But each time this becomes manifest in a film, the viewer - no matter how many times they've seen this done before - looks for a slightly different point of view on how this is presented. Which is probably why, Best Director is the 2nd-last award at the Oscars. Because it really does tell you what the best film will be. Sometimes, this is not always the case, which is why I also try not to generalise too much... Doesn't work very well when speaking of Hollywood.

So, when walking into the screening of What happens in Vegas I was looking forward to some boring chick flick, with a predictable ending and a couple of laughs in between. Do men enjoy this because they think they know how women will
react afterwards, thus greatly improving their chances at getting laid? Do women - despite going on and on about how crap the world is - enjoy these films because it allows the fantasy of the film to leap the silver screen and fold into their date so they can be swept off their feet by a person that really understands them and how they feel? I don't know, nor do I think I ever will. I have better threats to worry about.

The ending was predictable, because unlike Alien vs Predator: Requiem - I didn't expect to see a child getting killed in the first few minutes - this is an American comedy with two talented and possibly attractive stars (Ashton Kutcher & Cameron Diaz) who would want the audience to see they're happy at least in make believe land. It was very funny, with some unexpected twists like the best mate bitch-slapping the star, and the girlfriend plotting on the damsel in distress' behalf. There's isn't a lot to say about this film except it was better than most, and like Wedding crashers it has a very distinct point of view that is bound to be copied over and over by Hollywood in the future. For now, it is unique; and uniqueness is what I enjoy seeing.

The romantic comedy movie What happens in Vegas is directed by Tom Vaughan and stars Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher, Rob Corddry.
