Theatrical report
Teen romance number 1: good girl meets bad boy, they fall in love, they fall out of love, they fall back in love.
Teen tragedy number 1: good girl meets bad boy, they fall in love, one of them dies.
A walk to remember: good girl meets bad boy, they fall in love, they fall out of love, they fall back in love, one of them dies.
This film has all the hallmarks of a Christian cable channel movie of the week. The girl is so good she's the daughter of a minister; the boy is so bad he's cool: a Rebel without a cause with divorced parents and an absent father. It's a collection of banal clichés wrapped up in bland déjà vu. Blancmange on film.
If you love Mandy Moore then you'll get to see her performing a couple of songs. If you love Shane West, you get to see him being romantic. Why do women like to see a bad boy being tamed (or is that a cliché, too)? If you love Jesus you see how faith and virtue bring happiness despite life's vicissitudes.
If you love good films, you'll suffer a vicissitude of your own, limited only by Dean and Landon's repressed homosexual tendencies.
