Theatrical report

This report is embargoed until 13 June 2010.

Hoo boy, Toy story 3 is better than I expected. Sure, it's all the old characters up to all their old tricks, but it's the message behind the movie that makes it a stand-out. There comes in everyone's life a time to put away childish things. This applies especially for boys because we have an inherent attraction to toys which become tools, weapons, trucks, flat screen TVs, etc. I think that chicks like dolls so they can have babies or something. Don't know, don't care. (Not a chick, not having babies, does like tools, weapons, trucks, flat screen TVs, etc.) When boys don't put away their childish things they end up buying sports cars when they're 40.

There are some things no-one wants to see.

Hee, hee. That could be a tag line for a movie.

The three-dimensional animation is perfect. It doesn't affect the story, it's just... well... another dimension to the film (cf Avatar), like the introduction of sound and, later, colour. Not entirely looking forward to the next dimension: smell.

Toy story 3 is a good laugh and a good lesson and you'll have as much fun as the kids you're baby-sitting so that you have an excuse to go and see a cartoon. :)

The animation, comedy movie Toy story 3 is directed by Lee Unkrich and stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack.
