Movie propaganda

Pepper... is hot and scorches, just like the sun.

Food serves as a metaphor for life and love, as well as Greco-Turkish relations, in Greece's biggest-ever domestic box office hit.

Divided into three courses, Entrée, Main course and Dessert, this tasty repast moves between present-day Athens, and Istanbul of the late 1950s and early 60s. It's the story of Fanis Iakovidis (George Corraface), a young Greek boy growing up in the multi-cultural, cosmopolitan city that his family calls Constantinople. His beloved grandfather owns a spice shop and his mother is the best cook among her circle of friends. Grandfather, a self-styled culinary philosopher, finds many occasions to teach Fanis that both food and life require a little spice to give them flavour. Fanis' developing culinary skills eventually land him a job in a local brothel, but his family's happiness ends in 1965 when they, along with thousands of other Greek citizens, are deported from Turkey. Grandfather elects to remain behind, promising to join them one day. Their ultimate reunion is far different than either would have predicted…
