Theatrical report

Thank god for Adelaide. If it didn't exist, all those Adelaideans would end up here, where I live, and I'm quite depressed enough as it is.

Ten empty is a tragic suburban drama that is so deftly located in Australia that you'd be hard-pressed to film it anywhere else. Brendan Cowell and Anthony Hayes do some wonderful things with the language (fucken English ocker australis, if you're interested) and although the background to the situation is somewhat light it's not a bad thing because you feel the awkwardness of a new boyfriend/girlfriend meeting the family for the first time and having the family crisis blow up in your face. It's a painful thing to watch people you sort of care about crashing and burning and having no way to understand what's going on let alone how you can help.

There's a bit of scenery chewing but it's all worth it to get a good bit of intense Aussie drama on the screen.

Some persons might feel that there are hints of theatricality but they can get over that with a couple of schooners.

The Australia, drama movie Ten empty is directed by Anthony Hayes and stars Daniel Frederiksen, Lucy Bell, Brendan Cowell.
