As the Stargate SG-1 team embark upon its tenth year, Vala (Claudia Black), a former Goa'uld host turned freedom-fighter, joins them in their battle to defend the galaxy from the holy war of the Ori. Meanwhile, relations between the Jaffa and Earth continue to be strained by the political manoeuvring of Gerak (Louis Gossett Jr), a Jaffa leader whose rise to power has put him into conflict with Teal'c (Christopher Judge).
Secret Agent Acid Thunder
All praise be to the Ori! Another fantastic race for humankind to battle against. Sadly I would have liked to see more of them, but them being who they are, I am also pleased that the writers didn't overplay them. It was wonderful to see some very intricate plots going on and sad to lose some very interesting characters along the way. I thought Christopher Judge (Teal'c) looked more impressive being bald, but that inevitably would have type-cast him as a bald-type character. Full marks to him and/or the producers for letting his hair grow back. He still commands the screen when he speaks and his performance has not diminished. Beau Bridges brought his own legendary acting to Stargate, but I'm still not certain that it was necessary. Perhaps it was initially done when they tried to find an equally charismatic Richard Dean Anderson but I think that that is where the error lies. No-one can replace MacGyver. He is unique; he brought an aspect to the SG-1 team. He didn't make the show worth watching because he was the only Name there. Amanda Tapping & Michael Shanks (more Amanda than Michael) also brought their enthusiasm and energy which combined with Richard's and Christopher's culminates in one of the best science fiction series I have had the pleasure of watching.
I'm not a reviewer who is in the "know" of TV & cinema. I leave that sort of stuff to the Director of Intelligence. My job is to write about what I thought about the show. I was really saddened at the end of Farscape. For the first time in a very long time, Australia had presented a new theory on space travel and sadly it came to an abrupt end when the lovers ALMOST re-united. No problem, said the producers, the sci-fi world may rest easy, we've got an idea. And so came the introduction in Season 9 of SG-1 with Claudia Black (yummy) and Ben Browder (still got some growing up to do, but that's Australia for you).
SG-1 always had a sort of funny quirky edge to it (for those of you who are so-called die hard fans, let me tell ya something: IT'S FIC-TION, and I can't help but wonder if there will be a season 11. They tied in SG-A (Stargate Atlantis) very well so that the other series can continue where the previous left off and continue adventures in the same timeline. Perhaps nothing more needs to be said, after the Asgard passed on their knowledge to humanity or perhaps not. We can only wait and see.
