Movie propaganda

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

The highest grossing film/film series of all time. so big that it changed lives, and made science fiction a mainstream concept. Millions of dollars have been spent upgrading (some of) the clunky 1970s special effects and adding new scenes and advertising the whole shebang.

Theatrical report

There's about four minutes of new footage, but gee it is worth it. Glorious Widescreen Technicolour with digital theatre sound that dumps over the decomposing tape you got from the video store. And as my friend Chad said, "I'd forgotten how funny it is!"

Now even though I can quote whole scenes from memory (and yes, I was a member of the Official Star wars Fan Club, avidly devouring each issue of Bantha tracks as soon as it arrived) I was still surprised at the detail you encounter on the big screen. The new effects stand out because we can always spot computer generations, can't we? But they are no worse than Jurassic park.

If you don't know the story already, it's farm-boy meets princess and saves the galaxy from the evil villain. Like they do. I won't even pretend to be objective but it's worth seeing, even if only for the historical value. Ok, so the hair is lost in the 70s, and so is the dialogue, and so is some of the acting, and I still don't know why they cast Mark Hamill, but it's fun!!!
