South Pacific

is the film remake of Rodgers and Hammerstein's acclaimed musical, set on a remote island during World War II. The story tracks two parallel romances: one between a Navy nurse and a wealthy, mysterious plantation owner; the other between a native girl and a young American officer, whose secret mission on the island could change the course of the war. The multi-layered story features an exuberant score, including such classics as Some enchanted evening and Bali hai.

Starring Rade Serbedzija as Emile de Becque, Harry Connick Junior as Lieutenant Joseph Cable, USMC, Glenn Close as Nellie Forbush, Robert Pastorelli as Luther Billis and Justin Smith. Directed by Richard Earce.
