She knew his face, his voice, his touch. she knew everything about him except the truth.
Set in the South of the USA just after the Civil War, Laurel Sommersby (Jodie Foster) is just managing to work the farm without her husband Jack, believed killed in the war. By all accounts, Jack Sommersby (Richard Gere) was not a pleasant man, thus when he returns, Laurel has mixed emotions. It appears that Jack has changed a great deal, leading some people to believe that this is not actually Jack but an impostor. Laurel herself is unsure, but willing to take the man into her home, and perhaps later into her heart...
Special Agent Matti
Two rugged and handsome men fall in love with the same proud southern belle, but one of them hides a secret only she can unravel. Pride, passion, jealousy and sacrifice fill the sunny days and balmy nights...
*Stops channelling romance novel publicist*
*Shudders*
Using the USA civil war as a perfectly good excuse for some shady romantic shenanigans, Sommersby is a lightweight chick flick with pretty girls, pretty men and a variety of southern accents. It takes a long time to get going but it will have you sniffling into your tissue by the end, and that's all you need to know, isn't it?
