Movie propaganda

Jack Barrett (Colin Friels) is the type of guy no one calls Jack. He works for a group of businessmen known as "The Gentlemen" who operate within the fertile realm of the Sydney Underworld. Stand-over tactics, prostitution, illegal gambling, creative importation - you name it, "The Gentlemen" are into it. And Barrett enforces it for them. Old school muscle for hire.

Now 53-years-old, he's tired of having to throw away perfectly good suits because you can't dry-clean the blood off. No surprise that when he shuts his eyes at night, all he sees is a small fishing village, a run-about and a long line. To get there, he needs to get out. Out of Sydney. Out of the game.

Which is, of course, easier said than done.

Theatrical report

Even though Australians are very good at making crime movies, especially black comedy crime movies, Solo is not as entertaining as you would hope. That doesn't mean that it's bad, it just happens to be (a) depressingly full of despair and (b) written a tad too loosely. Overall, it sits between SNAK: Sensitive New Age Killer and The Magician. Nice twist, but.

The Australian crime movie Solo is directed by Morgan O'Neill and stars Colin Friels, Bojana Novakovic and Vince Colosimo.
