Movie propaganda

After this week in paradise, they're going to need a vacation.

Action hero Harrison Ford stars in this non-stop adventure hit about a dream holiday that turns into a hilarious tropical nightmare!

Harrison Ford is Quinn Harris, a gruff cargo pilot living an uncomplicated existence in paradise. His life is just the way he wants it - until he meets Robin Monroe (Anne Heche). She's a sharp, driven magazine editor on a week-long dream holiday with her new fiancé, Frank Martin (David Schwimmer). When an unexpected editorial deadline requires Robin to be in Tahiti, she reluctantly bribes Quinn to fly her there. This already uneasy relationship takes a nosedive when his weather-beaten old plane is forced down in a storm. Now, stranded together on a deserted island, the mis-matched pair discovers danger and romance in a series of adventures not found in any travel brochure!

Theatrical report

A romantic drama adventure comedy.

Which is to say that Six days, seven nights was sometimes a bit disjointed, and occasionally it undercut itself with humour, but it was still a romantic and engaging film.

The story is a combination of all those 50s films where a mis-matched couple gets stranded on a deserted island (or some other isolated place), goes through lots of trials and tribulations, then falls in love at the end, happily ever after. In fact there is more than one homage to the genre in this film, and I won't say whether it follows the formula to the end - find out for yourself!

Harrison Ford is surprisingly old (ie not made-up to look 20 years younger), which is a wonderful surprise; I found myself paying more attention to Harrison's acting than his hair colour (although my flatmate still reckons he's a babe). Anne Heche is a very natural performer and her character is a brilliantly complex woman of the 90s. She's also very, very funny in a subtle and understated yet incredibly biting way. David Schwimmer has been going to the gym lots, and was often very good, but he kept lapsing back into Friends mode, which was distracting.

Six days, seven nights is a piece of escapism which will go down easily this summer. It's entertaining, funny, and very romantic. I know this because I had that warm fuzzy glow inside my tummy.
