SGU will follow a team of explorers headed up by Dr Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle). They must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.

Middle Weight said, "I found the first episode pretty interesting. Not a bad show." Which sums up my own impressions in very few words. I'm happy to see that the creators of the series found a story string that has great potential for the long term while continuing to keep viewers interested and involved. Atlantis and the Ancients is a long-standing theme that originated in SG:1, then continued with a series of its own, SG: Atlantis, and I suppose with the way that series was going they felt it necessary to take the franchise in a whole new direction. A lot of the humour that was prevalent in the older series seems to have been taken away, making this a more serious science fiction, but the action remains. I don't think the pilot was presented as well as it could have been, in my opinion there was too much jumping between past and present and there was too much exposure to how many characters the series starts off with. Yes, some of the characters died off in the first few minutes but unless they collect wayward travellers there is no room for "development".
If I had FOXTEL, I'd be setting my recorder for episode 4 because sadly the preview disc only had the first 3 episodes.
