Saints and soldiers is an action-packed story based on the horrifying historical event known as the "Malmedy Massacre".

In December 1944, Hitler's army blitzkriegs through the Ardennes Forest into Belgium creating the terrifying wintertime offensive known as The Battle of the Bulge. Corporal Nathan Greer (Corbin Allred) and close friend Sergeant Gordon Gunderson (Peter Asle Holden) find themselves held captive with over 100 other American Soldiers in a snow-covered field. As panic and confusion ensues, the German soldiers open fire on the American prisoners. Greer, Gunderson and a handful of other soldiers are able to escape the massacre by hiding in the nearby woods. Without weapons or food they take on the unforgiving winter as they try to find their way back to allied occupied territory.

Theatrical report

Saints and soldiers is reminiscent of Band of brothers in that it deals with World War II events after D-Day (ie Allies running around Europe in the snow, chasing Germans) but it has the added value of being based on specific people, places and events rather than general "Let's beat the Nazis" stuff. It's good.
