Movie propaganda

Something evil and not human lurks in the forests outside Raccoon City.

Members of STARS (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) are called in to investigate a series of gruesome murders that happened on the outskirts of town. When they investigate strange happenings at a deserted mansion in the woods, they instead find a horror from beyond the grave. A powerful organisation dubbed "Umbrella" has unleashed a biological experiment that's turned their workers into the living dead. And now these zombies want to expand their ranks...

Based on the video game.

Theatrical report

Being based on (yet another) computer game, Resident evil has little hope of expanding the filmic oeuvre no matter how well it plays the genre. That said, there're lots of scary bits, lots of walking around and lots of shooting, just like in the game. As an action film, it's pretty cool: there are plenty of guns to shoot, plenty of targets to shoot at and plenty of claustrophobic, terror filled moments.

Milla Jovovich gets in some bad-ass bitch time, just beating out Michelle Rodriguez who is the feisty Latina soldier from hell. The boys get a bit of a look in in the action stakes, too, but even Arnie couldn't compete with Lara Croft. Chicks rule.
