Movie propagandaThe school year is finally over, and TJ Detweiler is looking forward to a fun-filled summer. Boredom quickly sets in however, until he uncovers a scheme to do away with summer holidays! Former principal Doctor Benedict, who once tried to eliminate recess from the school day, now plans to use a laser beam to alter the weather and create permanent winter. It sure would be tough to have to go to school year-round, so TJ calls in all his friends for help. Just when the kids appear to be facing their final test of strength against the mad educator, the faculty joins together in order to help save summer holidays.

Theatrical reportSchool holiday time.
For the uninitiated, recess is the American term for playtime, interval, morning break and afternoon tea. For the even more uninitiated, it is also one of those cartoons that hordes of kids watch on TV rather than going outside to get skin cancer from the hole in the ozone layer, lung cancer from the toxic fumes produced by cars and blood cancer from the overhead power lines.
Having a spooky fascination for environmentally induced cancers, I have never had the time to watch the TV show, which gave me a bit of a handicap when it came to the eponymous film. Not so much as to make it impossible to understand, but I missed some of the in-jokes. I knew they were in-jokes because I'm really clever.
Can your kids watch it while you slip down to the café at the corner for a latté? Yeah, sure. No worries. They'll even enjoy it.
