Theatrical report
Precious: based on the novel Push by Sapphire is one of those nasty films that make you glad that you're a tall, thin, white, blonde, pretty, affluent, educated single person from a stable home because, if you're a short, fat, illiterate, unattractive victim of incest and abuse your life is gonna be shit. And that's before the government gets a hold of you.
Gabourey Sidibe is great as the pregnant, obese, victim of beatings, rapes, belittling, bullying and government non-interference. There's so much anger and pain locked up inside her frame that you can see it oozing out of her pores, although that might've been the grease from all the fried food that she had to eat. Likewise Mo'Nique as the mother: talk about one crazy bitch. She is nuts. You want to avoid getting her bad side but you can't because she only has a bad side. This whole movie makes you think, no matter how liberal you are, that enforced sterilisation is not such a bad idea.
You won't enjoy like this film but you might like it.
