Movie propaganda
The new police recruits. Call them slobs. Call them jerks. Call them gross. Just don't call them when you're in trouble.
New rules enforced by the Lady Mayoress mean that sex, weight, height and intelligence need no longer be a factor for joining the police force. This opens the floodgates for all and sundry to enter the Police Academy, much to the chagrin of the instructors. Not everyone is there through choice, though. Social misfit Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg) has been forced to sign up as the only alternative to a jail sentence and it doesn't take long before he falls foul of the boorish Lieutenant Harris (GW Bailey). But before long, Mahoney realises that he is enjoying being a police cadet and decides he wants to stay... while Harris decides he wants Mahoney out!

Theatrical report
I saw nothing. This DVD was stolen from my office but I won't name names because that won't get them back or bring the two scum-sucking culprits to justice.
Meanwhile, when I first saw Police Academy all those years ago, it was a top-rate, low-brow comedy that had yet to descend to the depth of sequels with numbers bigger than the title. Steve Guttenberg and GW Bailey play their characters to the full gamut that both dimensions will allow, while Michael Winslow makes his only funny film appearance (he makes sound effects using his voice). The role was created for him, which is why he's so good in it.
And now, the scary part: Police Academy is being remade with a 2006 release date.
