Theatrical report
Paranormal activity is kind of scary, but not worth all the hype it got; Ring (Japanese Version) was more disturbing and got to me more than this movie, but it is still VERY clever. The special effects were great and the idea that your uptight bitch of a girlfriend is possessed IS a bit hard to fathom. I thought that once people lost their virginity they were impervious to external influences like demons and angels. Maybe it's the whole tainted love thing that got them there in the first place or maybe they just "make out" and she still IS a virgin; quite possible with the film being set in America and all. I think that because there was so much hype around it being the new Blair Witch Project that the expectation was dramatically reduced. Australians are cynical at birth and where the US goes crazy over this sort of thing, we actually applaud good films like Good Will Hunting (no Mr Obama, I will never let the United States forget about that one). I was a wee bit (but only a wee bit mind you) disappointed about the lack of credits and worried that the only wording after the film ceased was the disclaimer that the film was fictional. That is one aspect from BWP that I found entertaining was that everyone thought it was real because even those who stay for the credits couldn't read the fine print.
The horror, supernatural movie Paranormal activity is directed by Oren Peli and stars Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Mark Fredrichs.
