Romantic comedies are always linear; no matter whom you put into the roles. Yes you may change what happens between point B & point Y but getting from A-Z always starts and finishes the same.
I suppose when there's nothing else very interesting coming in from your agent you pick a script from the "money maker" folder and more often than not, it's a romcom. It's nice to see Natalie Portman diversifying her role base, Ashton Kutcher... no surprises there. Recently I made time to see Black Swan and while I wasn't disappointed in Natalie's character I did see similarities in her personage. One day Ashton will grow up (hopefully older than Ben Affleck currently behaves) and realise he's been wasting his time doing romcoms; until then I promise to suffer through as many as he may produce in the hopes that he comes to the same conclusion while reading these reviews.
