Popularity isn't a contest, it's a war.
What's the worst thing that can happen to a guy his first day of senior year? Hint: it involves involuntary blood flow and an 80-year-old school librarian. That's all we can share right now but the end result is so painful and humiliating that poor Jack "Dizzy" Harrison (DJ Qualls) gets labelled untouchable for life by his entire school.
No one can help him. Not his clueless dad, Bear Harrison (Lyle Lovett) (who just got new orthodontia, by the way), nor his fellow outcasts and bandmates Nora (Zooey Deschanel), Glen (Parry Shen) and Kirk. When an incompetent guidance counsellor overmedicates him for misdiagnosed tourette's syndrome, Diz gets into a fight with an army of nuns and tossed into jail. There he gets turned around, rather, re-inspired. Inmate Luther (Eddie Griffin) counsels Diz on how to re-invent himself at the rival high school and go from "bitch to bull."
Diz re-names himself Gil Harris and, with the help of Luther's prison know-how, becomes the most feared and respected man at Highland High before lunch. Gil quickly has more power than Diz knows what to do with. He also has enemies too - notably Connor, the school's de-throned bad boy. As school god, Gil faces questions no loser ever would in a million years. Does he sleep with every single willing girl? Does he befriend or ignore the untouchables and outcasts at his new school? and most importantly: is Cconnor's cheerleader girlfriend Danielle (Eliza Dushku) more than just a pretty face, great body and fantastic legs?
When Diz' chief tormentor at his old school, a football thug named Barclay, also enrols at highland, Diz has to face all these questions and more as his secret identity dangles by a thread. Music, football, cheerleaders and death row inmates all come together as Dizzy faces a challenge more painful than the day his penis broke. Oops, we gave away the beginning.
