My life so far tells the story of Fraser Pettigrew (Robert Norman), a young child who turns the mysteries and sexual intrigues of the adult world around him into a grand comic adventure.
He lives on an animal-filled estate with his exquisitely eccentric Scottish family consisting of his indomitable Gamma Macintosh (Rosemary Harris), mother Moira (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) and Edward (Colin Firth) his madcap, inventor father. Life on the estate is a fairy tale, a series of one remarkable occurrence after another until Uncle Morris (Malcolm McDowell) brings his alluring French fiancée Heloise (Irène Jacob) to the estate. When everyone - including Fraser- falls in love with Heloise, the family's relations and fate are permanently altered. But as the fearless Fraser watches the way Heloise takes the estate by storm, he begins to see the world, and his incorrigibly boyish father, through newly adult eyes.
