Movie propaganda

The eighth blunder of the world.

This wild, wacky and delightfully unpredictable comedy treat stars hilarious comedian Leslie Nielsen as beloved, bumbling Mr Magoo... the world's most near-sighted millionaire! When a priceless stolen gem accidentally lands in Magoo's hands, a sinister plot is hatched by the thieves to get it back at all costs. That means clueless Mr Magoo is in the centre of a perilous predicament he's not even aware of! Pitted against a dangerous, sexy jewel thief (Kelly Lynch) and her dim-witted sidekick, Magoo has only his blind faith in his nephew Waldo and his bulldog Angus to keep him out of harm's way. Full of furiously funny action stunts and side-splitting surprises, Mr Magoo is a visual marvel of misadventure the whole family will love!

Theatrical report

Here's a wee hint for people reading the cover of a video box: the more adjectives there are the more they're trying to sell it. Visual marvel of misadventure? Alliteration is another giveaway. And beware of exclamation points, they're just trying to make the film seem more exciting!

Anyway, while I hated Mr Magoo as a kid - I was so frustrated he wanted to turn the TV off (not that I did!) - I managed to watch this movie without even thinking of hitting the eject button. If you're a Leslie fan, you'll see him doing a great Magoo characterisation. If you're not, you can always sit back and go for the gags and stunts. It's a really corny movie, but it captures the annoying quality of the original very well. Almost too well at times.

And I have to admit that I did laugh out loud despite my intentions (or should that be despite my pretensions?) so I have to give it a pass mark. It's a bit of a guy movie, but I'm sure you'll live with that.
