Rithy Panh’s documentary recounts his personal experiences in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, recreating the missing images using an innovative combination of clay figures and archival footage. Winner of the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes, The Missing Picture artfully explores Panh’s filmic preoccupation with how to represent and remember all that’s been lost. The first Cambodian film to be nominated for an Academy Award.
