These pellets contain heroine. Each weighs 10 grams. Each is 4.2 cm long and 1.4 cm wide. And they're on their way to New York in the stomach of a 17-year-old girl.

Maria full of grace tells the story of one young woman's journey from a small Colombian town to the streets of New York. A bright, spirited 17-year-old, Maria Alvarez (Catalina Sandino Moreno) lives with three generations of her family in a cramped house in rural Colombia and works stripping thorns from flowers in a rose plantation. The offer of a lucrative job involving travel - in fact, becoming a drug mule - changes the course of her life. Far from the uneventful trip she is promised, Maria is transported into the risky and ruthless world of international drug trafficking. Her mission becomes one of determination and survival and she finally emerges with the grace that will carry her forward into a new life.

Theatrical report

Maria full of grace is all about sex, drugs and religion - but mostly about drugs. The sex and the religion are thrown in for verisimilitude. Maria's life could easily have filled one of the storylines in Traffic. It's desperate, it's tragic, it's the joy of capitalism.

[The worker will never receive the full value of their labours because most profit is skimmed off by the company before paying wages. On the upside this makes the owners rich. On the downside, as the owners get richer - and greedier - the workers get poorer, and less able to break out of the cycle of poverty. Refer to the works of Karl Heinrich Marx. - Director of Intelligence.]

If you want to watch a film about one woman's struggle to find not only herself but the room to find herself, rising, sinking, struggling, fighting, lying, stealing, suffering, then Maria full of grace is the film for you. If you want to watch a film about one woman's search to find herself amidst her own ambitions, rising, sinking, struggling, fighting, then watch Hilary Duff in Raise your voice.
