The long awaited continuing story to the academy award winning film, The lion king is here. The lion king 2: Simba's pride brings all the magic of your favourite characters - and some wonderful new ones - to an all new adventure. The circle of life continues with all the power and majesty of The lion king.

Kiara, Simba's playfully headstrong daughter and heir to the pridelands, is on the prowl for adventure. Escaping her bumbling babysitters, Timon and Pumbaa, Kiara runs off to the outlands, which are strictly off-limits. There she meets the mischievous Kovu, a young cub chosen to walk in Scar's paw prints. The rift between the outlanders and Simba's pride deepens as Kiara and Kovu's feelings for each other grow. But will love find a way to bring their very different worlds together as one?

An all star cast returns including Matthew Broderick (Simba), Nathan Lane (Timon), Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa) and Robert Guillaume (Rafiki). Breathtaking animation and five spectacular new songs guarantee adventure and entertainment for everyone.

Theatrical report

It was scary, it was funny, it was exciting, but it was also a sequel.

The problem with sequels is that they are made because the original was really popular and made lots of money. Then someone decides to do another one to make even more money. Art and capitalism don't have the healthiest of relationships.

So the wonder of discovering a new world that we loved in the original is missing: what we have instead is a much more traditional approach to film, with a bit of character development, some consequences of previous actions and some new characters to liven things up. It is well done, however, and you will enjoy the story.

The songs are delightful and sinister and show stopping (as appropriate), the villainess is villainous, the hero and heroine are heroic, the funnymen are funny animals, and there are lots of those delightfully scary bits that you only get in the best Disney movies.

If you loved the original, you'll at least like the sequel, and who knows, this may even be your video in shining armour!
