Theatrical report

Trying my patience.

There are lots of thrills in the "I'm in a relationship with a psycho" vein but Killing me softly is let down by sloppy filmmaking.

  1. The first part of the film is told - in voice-over and flashback - by Alice to a police officer (she is explaining why she needs protection). Then the voice-over ends and the film continues in real time from that point. The story ends. Alice starts talking again. To whom? Kara Lindstrom and Kaige Chen couldn't find a proper ending to the film so tacked this one on. Bad, bad, bad.
  2. Natascha McElhone overacts so badly that I can only say Christmas ham. If you don't peg her as the baddy in her first (or any other) scene you don't deserve to have eyes.
  3. I have never seen anyone killed by a flare gun in real life but I imagine that it's a very painful and very noisy business. There would not be a symphony orchestra playing softly in the backgroud.
Other than that, Heather flashes her tits about a lot (a LOT) and it's even in context. Joseph has pumped up and would look extra hunky except that he doesn't have that sort of body; he does look like a mountaineer, however.

Because of the 3 sloppy points above, Killing me softly is not as rewarding a thriller as Vertical limit despite having more thrills.
