Kill, threaten, kidnap, maim, murder, steal... meet the masters. In a world where loyalties are easily abandoned and allegiances bought, six perfect strangers come together to pull off the perfect crime. To get the job done, they must all do what they have never done before - trust each other. But when their simple robbery explodes in a bloody ambush, the ruthless killers realise one of them is a cop. But which one? Under siege and racing the clock, the six lock in a deadly battle of wits in a climax filled with spiralling tension and volatile action.

Theatrical report

If nothing else, you should see Kaante for the alternative viewpoint: multi-culturalism is good for the mind.

It's a ripping good adaptation of the Reservoir dogs story with that peculiarly Indian flavour that puts you in mind of head-wobbling and hard-core vindaloo.

It's also got lots of shooting - and I mean Lots of shooting - and some pretty cool exploding, bleeding, shouting and dying. And stealing. The song and dance numbers make a great counterpoint to the main story and are a great excuse for some hot mama eye candy. Not that there's any need for an excuse. When the blokes get in on the act it's weird but strangely fascinating as well. Kind of like a Cityrail train accident: you're glad you're not taking part but you can't help watching.

Even if you've never been interested in films with words at the bottom, Kaante is a good introduction to a whole new world. Pick up a nice lamb korma beforehand for extra movie goodness.

FYI: On the print I watched, the subtitles got confused between Marc and Mak in the second half of the film. Don't worry, however, as you'll be able to figure it out.
