Just the ticket

Threat advisory: Elevated - Significant risk of entertaining activities

Movie propaganda

A tale for the 90s, in the vein of Diner, that celebrates the city's small time dreamers and schemers, Just the ticket centres around Gary Stark (Andy Garcia), a veteran scalper who presides over a motley crew of law-breaking ticket scalpers. Over the years Gary has kept himself in the black and out of trouble through a combination of quick wit, fast talk and an "honour among thieves" philosophy. But Gary's world is about to change when he is faced with two major problems: the break up of his long-time relationship with Linda (Andie Macdowell), who has finally wearied of his fast and loose life, and the sudden appearance of a ruthless rival who hones in on Gary's trade and threatens to become the city's new ticket master. With time running out, Gary must come up with a final big score with the Pope's visit to New York or run the risk of losing the love of his life, his livelihood and the last of his dreams.

Theatrical report

Romantic drama.

In other circumstances this would be a Romantic comedy, but as it isn't funny, it's a romantic drama.

A close up look at one of those 15 million New York stories with a twist of independent filmmaking to put an edge on the whole Hollywood saccharine thing. Is the acting good? Sure. Is the story entertaining? Sure. Is the action well thought out? Sure. Is it believable? Well... ex-supermodel artiste falls in love with average-looking small-time criminal and... well, you get the picture.

I am thoroughly fed up with women in film having to be young superbabes while men just have to turn up. I am also fed up with films being made with all the same people just because they're famous. There are better actors who are far more appropriate for the roles out there. Trust me on this.

*Rant off*

*Sighs*

Just the ticket is an ok film for single mature viewers who want a romance without any of the sex. Whatever.
