Adam (Jake Weber) and Ben (Rob Morrow) are life-long friends who attend Columbia University together. Eventually, Adam meets and starts dating Nina (Claire Forlani) and then, after graduation, Ben starts dating Kat (Jayne Brook). However, in two members of this circle of couples end up crossing their relationship boundaries, posing the question, "What would you do if you fell in love with your best friend's lover?"
