In search of Mozart - Juliet Stevenson, Sean Barrett, Frank Adams-Brown, Phil Grabsky

Threat advisory: Under evaluation

Movie propaganda

A feature documentary film by Phil Grabsky to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth (January 2006). It will be the first major cinema/television film about the composer since 1967.

Neglected genius. Wunderkind. Rebellious superstar. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) has become a series of myths that has made it almost impossible for a 21st century audience to know who the real man was. This major film will seek to unravel the myth.

This biography of Mozart will be told through a 40,000 kilometre journey by director Phil Grabsky following every route that Mozart is known to have made. It will be a detective story that travels to the heart of old Europe - and to the heart of genius itself. The film will seek to answer one main question: why is Mozart thought of as one of the world's greatest musical geniuses? What makes him so sublime to some - and a little sickly to others? What exactly was the world in which he lived and travelled?

Narrated through contemporary letters and accounts, the film will feature music from Europe's greatest orchestras and finest musicians, expert interviews, as well as visually stunning location filming along the lanes and highways, inns and hostelries, palaces and houses, and towns and cities that Mozart himself visited and performed in.
