19-year-old Aubrey Fleming (Lindsay Lohan) is the apple of her parents' eye - beautiful, intelligent, and a gifted writer. The tranquillity of her sleepy town is shattered when Aubrey is kidnapped - apparently the latest victim in a string of brutal murders. It's nothing short of a miracle when Aubrey's battered but still-breathing body is found by the side of the highway. But when she awakens in the hospital, Aubrey insists she isn't Aubrey at all, but rather Dakota - a stripper from a nearby town, raised by her single, drug-addicted mother.
The police think young Aubrey is suffering from a trauma-induced delusion, but a more mysterious and sinister truth begins to emerge. She's not Aubrey at all, and the jagged cuts that appear on her body as if by magic may well be the best clues to lead everyone to the very real Aubrey, still held captive in the torturer's den. Dakota soon realizes the terrifying truth that her inexplicable connection to the missing girl may be the only thing keeping Aubrey alive.
