Theatrical report
Puberty. Those cherubic boys have become husky young men but they still get to play magic and monsters with the best of them. The Chamber of Secrets is less coherent than The philosopher's stone with many of the motivations behind the secondary and tertiary characters unclear, particularly Draco Malfoy and the Gryffindor team Captain. They wander in, grumble a bit and then wander out. All in all, they have no effect on the story or on the outcome.
Gilderoy Lockhart is just plain annoying. Sure, he injects some humour into the film but would anyone really hire him as a teacher? I think not, despite the "fame" that he attaches to himself. On the upside, it's good to see racism getting the smack about the ears that it deserves. Mud-blood or pure-blood, Hogwarts is based on talent and skill, the way the world should be.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a fun adventure and a good mystery that everyone will enjoy, even if it does run for nearly three hours - who says kids have no attention span?
