Grizzly Falls

Threat advisory: Under evaluation

Movie propaganda

Harry Bankston (Richard Harris), now a grandfather, sits around a campfire and tells his grandchildren about his adventure with a Grizzly Bear when his father took him to Grizzly Falls many years before.

In 1913 the world is a different place, alive with romance and undiscovered lands. Tyrone Bankston (Bryan Brown) spends his life in pursuit of both, neglecting his wife and son Harry (Daniel Clark) who remain at home in Victorian splendour. When his wife unexpectedly dies, Tyrone returns to Chicago, and, to atone for his absence, takes Harry on a Grizzly Bear hunt in the wild Canadian west, with the intent to capture this fierce animal alive. His destination is Grizzly Falls, where he had lost his own father many years before.

Out west, he hires a hunting party, which includes an Indian tracker named Joshua (Tom Jackson), and old friend, and Genet (Oliver Tobias), a nasty hunter with an obsession to kill. Their task is far more difficult than anyone could have predicted. It all goes horribly wrong after they capture a pair of Grizzly cubs. When their mothers comes looking for them in the dead of the night, disaster is close behind. Finding her cubs locked up in a massive steel cage, the female Grizzly abducts Harry and sets off on a trek through the mountains with him. Despite and injury Tyrone and Joshua frantically follow them, but the Grizzly always manages to elude them.

As the boy and the bear travel across the majestic Rockies, they forge a bond of trust, loyalty and love. The bear nurtures the boy and teaches him how to survive in the wild. As Harry learns the power within him, his father begins to see the world through different eyes. He marvels at the resilience of his son, at his survival and at his unexpected alliance with the bear.

Ultimately the Grizzly leads Harry back to the camp, where the cubs are still held captive. Harry and his father are reunited in a raging battle at the end between the Grizzly and the rest of the hunting party. Together, Tyrone and Harry save the cubs, returning them to their mother. Through it all, father and son form their own bond, and realise how deep their love is, and how much they really need each other.

Also starring Brock Simpson as Lanky, Chantel Dick as young Jennifer, Trevor Lowden as Joshua Junior and Marnie McPhail as Harry's mother. Based on the story by Richard Beattie, written by Stuart Margolin, directed by Stewart Raffill.
