Movie propaganda

Power, money and blood: these are the "values" that the residents of the province of Naples and Caserta confront every day. They have practically no choice, and are forced to obey the rules of the "System", the Gomorrah. Only a lucky few can even think of leading a "normal" life.

Five stories are woven together in this violent scenario, set in a cruel and ostensibly invented world, but one that is deeply rooted in reality.

Theatrical report

Despite the expressed desires of certain elements of society, Gomorrah is not the sequel to Sodom: the movie. It is a pun on the word "Camorra", which is the Neapolitan organised criminal community (like the Cosa Nostra in Sicily). So, Italy, organised crime. This is not going to be a comedy.

Gomorrah is full of violence, drugs, lost innocence, poverty, Little Wog Battlers, shooting, bleeding, murder, wads of cash and incomprehensible behaviour (incomprehensible to most of us - only a small percentage of people (those with little or no conscience) can operate within the confines of organised crime). Matteo Garrone presents a bleak look at the Camorra with faded and muted colours, dry and dusty scenery, dilapidated buildings, worn and weary people. The pace drags so you feel like you're trapped in a never-ending nightmare. It's quite torturous. That's in part because it's a European film but also because there are so many stories. It's a bit like the second season of Underbelly: interesting but I was glad to see the end of it. I guess that Sodom was better.

The crime, Italy movie Gomorrah is directed by Matteo Garrone and stars Toni Servillo, Gianfelice Imparato, Maria Nazionale.
