Godzilla 2000 (Godzilla vs Megaguiras; Gojira tai Megagirasu: jî shômetsu sakusen) - Misato Tanaka, Shosuke Tanihara, Masatô Ibu, Masâki Tezuka
Threat advisory: Under evaluation
Dense fog covers Cape Nosappu of Nemuro, Hokkaido. Through the fog, we vaguely see three figures moving about, busily laying some sensor-like instruments. The tall figure is Yuji Shinoda (Naomi Nishida) - leader of GPN (Godzilla Prediction Network). Next to him is her daughter Io (Mayu Suzuki). The other slender figure is Yuki Ichinose (Takehiro Murata), a science journalist. Shinoda is currently the top Godzilla expert inthis country, but he just quit this job at a university to be free to travel through the country and organise a network of information on Godzilla, which may help predict its next appearance. Yuki does not understand Shinoda's passion for Godzilla, but she supports Shinoda's belief that a timely prediction of Godzilla's arrival will minimise the damage and save precious lives.
That very night, the much feared Godzilla lands on shore. With a towering height of 55 meters and an almost invincible fighting power, Godzilla demolishes the entire city of Nemuro. Shinoda tries to approach Godzilla on a 4WD vehicle, but is seen by Godzilla and barely escapes its attack. Another power plant gets crushed by Godzilla. We see flashes of Godzilla's silhouette through the flames of the burning city. The roars of Godzilla echoes through the night. Yuki is terrorised by this when she hears Shinoda say "Is Godzilla showing us its hatred towards energies created by humans?"
Earlier that week, a huge rock (200 meters wide) was discovered in the deep Sea of Japan trench, off the coast of Kashima-Nada, Ibaraki Prefecture. Shiro Miyasaka (Shiro Sano), a scientist at CCI (Crisis Control Intelligence Agency), who studied this rock concluded that this was a meteorite - some 6000 years old - with unknown chemical properties that do not exist on Earth. When people tried to lift it, the rock started to ascend on its own. Miyasaka makes another scientific survey of the rock, now strangely afloat. Miyasaka wonders if this huge thing is alive. "Could this be some kind of an extraterrestrial life form unknown to us?"
Godzilla shows up again in Tokai Mura, where there is a nuclear power plant. Mitsuo Katagiri (Hiroshi Abe), head of CCI and Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, leads the defence force to protect the nuclear power plant from Godzilla's attack. Shinoda hurries to the site, only to be ignored by Katagiri who orders a direct attack on Godzilla. He wants to use the newly developed full-metal missile. Just then, Katagiri receives an unbelievable report from Miyasaka, that the mysterious floating rock started to fly towards Tokai Mura!
Godzilla meets the gigantic flying rock! Godzilla opens its mouth and blows an atomic fire breath at the rock, which makes the surface of the rock fall off to reveal an amazing UFO hidden underneath the rock-like surface. The UFO attacks Godzilla with a hyperblaster and blows Godzilla off across the sea. We lose sight of Godzilla. But Godzilla's final blow had equally damaged the UFO, causing it to fall to the ground and seemingly cease all its activities.
Shinoda and Miyasaka knew each other at university. They join hands and start to search the remains of the city for Godzilla's cells and UFO. Mysteriously, no life form could be detected in the UFO. Could this be an alien life form totally new to us, beyond all our imagination?
Gradually, they learn the amazing secrets of Godzilla's miraculous recovery power. As Shinoda says, Godzillla is full of surprises. By studying Godzilla, we may be able to unravel the secrets of all life forms on this Earth.
Suddenly, the gigantic UFO starts to move again. It starts to fly towards Shinjuku, one of Tokyo's busiest districts. What does it want? Everybody is ordered to evacuate the town. Katagiri executes a plan to destroy the UFO, when all of a sudden, Godzilla appears again. We are again thrown in the middle of a fight between Godzilla and the gigantic UFO, which could destroy the entire city of 12 million inhabitants.
