Food Inc - Michael Pollan, Eric Schlosser, Robert Kenner
Threat advisory: Elevated - Significant risk of entertaining activities
Movie propaganda
In Food Inc, filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on the nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that's been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of the US government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. The nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and the environment. Food Inc reveals surprising - and often shocking truths - about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

Theatrical report
Maybe it's just me but doesn't everyone know that the free market economy doesn't work? And who doesn't know that industry self-governance doesn't work? Even the bloody Romans knew this (Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? or Who will guard the guards themselves?) People always work in their own interests. Greed is a fundamental of human nature.
On the other hand, a bit of agit-prop is required every now and then to get the great unwashed off their couches and into the streets. Also, Yanks are notoriously undereducated (or lazy) so they need a kick up the arse to get them going. Some might say that this film doesn't apply to Australia because we're not America but they should remember that most of our industries have big investment from the USA. Even Arnott's is owned by Seppos.
The food industry documentary movie Food Inc is directed by Robert Kenner and stars Michael Pollan, Eric Schlosser.
