Movie propaganda
A raging forest fire sets the stage for a daring prison break in this action adventure film starring former football great Howie Long, who makes his motion picture starring debut portraying fearless smoke-jumper Jesse Graves.
When Graves parachutes into the middle of a forest inferno, he inadvertently exposes a gang of escaped convicts disguised as fire fighters. With few tools and no backup, he must try to outsmart a cunning killer (William Forsythe) and save an innocent hostage (Suzy Amis). His friend and mentor, Wynt Perkins (Scott Glenn) tries desperately to find him, but the fire is turning and time is running out.
Academy award-winning cinematographer Dean Semler (Dances with wolves) makes his directorial debut.

Theatrical report
Clichés, clichés, clichés.
Sometimes clichés can be fun (The Rocky Horror picture show) and sometimes they can be deathly boring. Firestorm is one of the latter.
The action hero is not only blond-haired and blue-eyed, but sensitive and clever as well. The damsel in distress just happens to be the daughter of a Marine. The baddie just happens to be a criminal genius and not the kind to be stopped by a bullet in the leg or an axe in the chest. The old-timer who is staring down the barrel of his pension gives in to the call of money and goes bad. The dramatic shots of real forest fires which have been enhanced by computer imagery. The firestorm that travels hundreds of meters in mere seconds but doesn't quite manage to catch up to the dashing hero.
Firestorm is a collection of clichés in search of irony, without the benefit of a map or compass. Watch it on video, you won't have long to wait.
