Movie propaganda

The fast and the furious is a fierce and frenzied look at rival Los Angeles street teams who use street racing as a means of establishing power.

Paul Walker stars as Brian Spindler, a rookie cop who goes undercover, posing as a racing team member in order to investigate a trucking heist. Managing to ingratiate himself with the team's leaders at first, he finds himself in jeopardy when the other members begin to suspect an impostor within their ranks, setting the stage for an exciting climactic showdown.

Theatrical report

This is a film with a title that fair screams for a piss take, but I could only come up with The cast and the curious and The last and the ludicrous, neither of which tells you anything about The fast and the furious, which can, however, be summed up in two words: fast and loud.

At the preview, I almost went deaf from the roar of the engines, the squeals of the tires and the fact that the volume was turned up too loud. Offsetting this was the fact that the audio was sufficiently enhanced to use the full range of the cinema's speakers. Some movies have left and right, some have front and back, but The fast and the furious has left and right, front and back, middle front, middle and middle back. Cars zoom past your head as if you were there. Rock on digital technology!

As for the cars, well, they are much hotter than Gone in 60 seconds, and it's not a matter of stealing them, it's all about making them go faster. Talk about compensating for having a small penis.

All right, enough of the jokes, here's what you'll see if you see The fast and the furious:

The film is nothing if not spectacular even though it doesn't even approach minor concerns as drama and realism, but you wouldn't want it to because that would get in the way of the cars, bikes, racing, chasing, shooting and stealing. If you've ever looked beneath the bonnet of a car with anything like affection then The fast and the furious is for you.

Stand by for The fast and the furious 2...
