Theatrical report
Wow. Talk about over-the-top. The Expendables is an exercise in Sylvester Stallone doing what he does best: hiring himself for a part in a movie that he wrote for himself (see also Rambo, Rocky Balboa). The plot is woeful, the script is abysmal and the acting is terrible. On the plus side, the explosions are pretty, the shooting is loud and there's plenty of blood. You also get to see what happened to all those has-been action men and if you get bored you can play "Who's had the most cosmetic surgery?" or "Who's been taking the most steroids?" There are some funny gags but the biggest joke is on anyone who watches this thinking they might be in for another A-Team.
The action movie The Expendables is directed by Sylvester Stallone and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham.
