Movie propaganda

Diamond hunter Mike Kardec (Billy Zane) agrees to take an American couple deep into the jungles of Borneo in search of a raw diamond. Mike and Helen Lacklan (Paris Jefferson) are immediately attracted to each other. John Lacklan (Keith Carradine), an arrogant genius whose career has faltered, becomes jealous of their rapport.

Before they can begin the journey, the couple is lured away from Mike by a diamond "pirate". The pirate shows the couple an unbelievably beautiful diamond and promises to find them one of equal value. Mike warns them that this criminal will certainly kill them but John refuses to listen. Understanding the danger, Mike follows the group up river and, despite the odds, is able to save the couple from execution as well as retrieve the infamous diamond of Jeru.

Theatrical report

Indiana Jones on valium.

The diamond of Jeru is based on a pot-boiler, the kind of book that you read when you're stuck in a cabin in the mountains in the snow with nothing else to read, and you finish it because it's that or look at the walls closing in. As a film, it's a boring collection of clichés, not worth the time or effort of remembering the title, so don't.
