Theatrical report
Wow, The Dark Knight takes a left turn from its generic superhero predecessor Batman begins and heads down the road less travelled. This film is not about a man in Lycra saving the day, it's about a man in pain finding the only way out. There's plenty of action and some great stunts but the best part of this movie is that the solution is not what you expect. Sometimes doing the wrong thing is the only way to do the right thing. (I don't believe that because it's oxymoronic but given the hole the characters have dug for themselves there's not a lot else they can do.)
Christian Bale continues his multi-layered performance but the show-stealer is Heath Ledger. If I hadn't known that it was him playing The Joker I'd have wondered who it was. Even without the make-up he'd be a whole different person.
And guess what? The girl dies. When was the last time that the hero didn't save the girl? That's so cool.
I saw The Dark Knight on the giant screen at Imax and it was pretty awesome but, as I suffer from motion sickness, I had to look away a few times. The truck stunt goes off.
The action, superhero movie The Dark Knight is directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger.
